A people-first identity for the ones who solve, build, create, and move the world forward.
In 2018, Merrick Macomber coined the term Solutioneer™ as a people-first alternative to words like "staff," "labor," and "headcount." Because people are not just positions to fill. They are thinkers. Builders. Creators. Problem-solvers. Culture carriers. They are Solutioneers™.
The Story
It Started With One Word
For years, Merrick Macomber heard the same workplace language repeated over and over again.
Labor.
Staff.
Headcount.
Employees.
None of those words felt big enough for the people actually doing the work.
In the world of off-site construction and advanced manufacturing, the people on the floor are not just filling roles. They are solving problems in real time. They are building homes, improving systems, adapting to change, helping each other, and turning big ideas into something real.
Merrick believed they deserved a word that reflected their value.
So in 2018, she coined one.
Solutioneer™.
A blend of solution, engineer, and pioneer, the word was created to honor the kind of person who does not just show up to complete a task, but shows up to contribute, improve, collaborate, and build something better.
What began as a term of endearment became a cultural identity.
And eventually, a movement.
